Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas National Park

By DOYLE

Last week our whole family visited Fort Jefferson.

We got on a ferry in Key West and the boat took us to Dry Tortugas National Park.

Fort Jefferson is a big, huge, giant fort inside the park made of 16 million bricks. (It's called a park, but there is no playground. I wish there was.)

Fort Jefferson started being built in 1846, the same year that Neptune was discovered. (Neptune report coming soon!)

When we got there, we set up camp. Then we went snorkeling to see fish. I saw fish, and I grabbed one with my hand too. Only one, cause they were real fast.

I liked seeing the fish but water came in my snorkel mask so that part was just okay.

Then we took a walk around the fort. The park rangers told us there was a crocodile in the moat next to the fort, but we didn't see it.

No crocodiles here!

We ate hot dogs for dinner that dad cooked. I lit the fire. They were really good.

I slept in my own tent near the food. I bought the tent with my own money. It cost $87 and I saved birthday money and allowance money to buy it.

This is our campsite. My tent is the orange one.

I had a great time. My favorite thing was eating s'mores during our cookout.

I photobombed all of mom's sunset pictures.
